MATILDA
by: Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953)
WHO TOLD LIES, AND WAS BURNED TO DEATH
MATILDA told such Dreadful Lies,
It made one Gasp and Stretch one’s Eyes;
Her Aunt, who, from her Earliest Youth,
Had kept a Strict Regard for Truth,
Attempted to Believe Matilda:
The effort very nearly killed her,
And would have done so, had not She
Discovered this Infirmity.
For once, towards the Close of Day,
Matilda, growing tired of play,
And finding she was left alone,
Went tiptoe to the Telephone
And summoned the Immediate Aid
Of London’s Noble Fire-Brigade.
Within an hour the Gallant Band
Were pouring in on every hand,
From Putney, Hackney Downs, and Bow.
With Courage high and Hearts a-glow,
They galloped, roaring through the Town,
‘Matilda’s House is Burning Down!’
Inspired by British Cheers and Loud
Proceeding from the Frenzied Crowd,
They ran their ladders through a score
Of windows on the Ball Room Floor;
And took Peculiar Pains to Souse
The Pictures up and down the House,
Until Matilda’s Aunt succeeded
In showing them they were not needed;
And even then she had to pay
To get the Men to go away!
It happened that a few Weeks later
Her Aunt was off to the Theatre
To see that Interesting Play
The Second Mrs. Tanqueray.
She had refused to take her Niece
To hear this Entertaining Piece:
A Deprivation Just and Wise
To Punish her for Telling Lies.
That Night a Fire did break out–
You should have heard Matilda Shout!
You should have heard her Scream and Bawl,
And throw the window up and call
To People passing in the Street–
(The rapidly increasing Heat
Encouraging her to obtain
Their confidence) — but all in vain!
For every time she shouted ‘Fire!’
They only answered ‘Little Liar!’
And therefore when her Aunt returned,
Matilda, and the House, were Burned.
“Matilda” is reprinted from Cautionary Tales. Hilaire Belloc. 1907.

Upon Westminster Bridge - by William Wordsworth
Sept. 3, 1802
Earth has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by
A sight so touching in its majesty:
This City now doth like a garment wear
The beauty of the morning: silent, bare,
Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie
Open unto the fields, and to the sky,
All bright and glittering in the smokeless air.
Never did sun more beautifully steep
In his first splendour valley, rock, or hill;
Ne’er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep!
The river glideth at his own sweet will:
Dear God! the very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!
Publishing White Papers has always been of interest to me. I wrote my first white paper on “Evaluation of Digital Certificates adoption in the E-business environment” while in school at Temple University’s Fox School of Business Management.
Wikipedia defines White Paper as
A white paper is an authoritative report or guide that often addresses problems and how to solve them. White papers are used to educate readers and help people make decisions.
White Paper gives Scholarly advice on areas of interest. It brings the business and technology together and influences decision makers to leverage the thoughts into a business case.
My area of research includes but is not limited to the following:
- Healthcare Information Systems, e.g. Electronic Medical Records, NHIN, RHIO
- Applicability of Game Theory in Healthcare and Information Systems
- Social / Human Aspects of Information Systems
- Quantitative analysis for Search Engine Optimization
- Diminishing Marginal Utility (Giffen Goods)
- Application of “Consumer Centric” approach in Health care
- Analyzing causes and effects of Internal Spamming
Recently I had been noticing that a lot of my White Papers were being referenced by corporate organizations, universities, standards organizations, clients and even students.
Here are some organizations referencing my work:
- Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government : Government Intervention: A Necessary Evil to Increase HIT Adoption?
- Medical Group Management Association, MGMA : The Purchasing Power of Today’s Medical Group Practice
- University of Brussel (Europe) : Link
- Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece) : A flexible model for the delivery of multi-facet information in patient–centric Healthcare Information Systems
- OAISYS : Voice Documentation in Healthcare
With writing two whitepapers (Healthcare Today & Organization Security) as my 2009 resolution, I want to continue my belief that “Sharing Knowledge Helps“.
Knowledge is processed data. A Knowledge Research Specialist refines the processed data and provides quality information to the decision makers.
